This happens a lot!

I've lost count on how many times this happens! Someone will stop me and show me something they have had for a number of years, and ask:
"How much is this worth?" 
Good question!

After a thorough examination and a lot of research a replacement value can be placed on an item for insurance purposes, yet this Mid-century chain and pendant from a Scandinavian country lacks any distinguishing trademarks, or quality stamps and determining its worth or how valuable it is, gets a little more complicated

Here is another item in for repair

The tiny rings on end of this chain needed to be opened up and looped around the ring connected to the clasp, then the ring needed to be welded shut.
 The video shows how this was done.

Jewelry examination from Minnetonka

Here are the results of the examination concluded earlier this week on the ring in the photo; it had a natural on the girdle that I needed to point out to the owner. Also the inclusion right next to it breaks the surface and should be noted in the take in documents. This will be a great ring after it is repaired and polished to new condition!

After thoroughly cleaning the ring mentioned earlier, I brought the affected areas up to 1700 degrees (with my Oxy- Propane torch ) and added in 14K gold to fill in the gallery and cracks!

 A client had recomended me in 2006, and I was commissioned to create this piece with a lot of time and attention spent on hand making each section.  In the summer of 2011 she came to me and told me that it was just made larger by another jeweler, but was irritating her finger. 

It has a lot of sentimental value to her, so, I wanted to do a very close inspection for her!
 I invite you to look closely at the inset.

  What you might be able to see is cracks around the inside surface, perpendicular to the shank, and a broken gallery that desperately needed repair!
Someone had stretched the ring on a tapered steel mandrel to make it bigger, instead of carefully adding gold to the band to increase the circumference of the band to make it bigger!

Here, as one of the featured instructors, I am demonstrating jewelry making methods with an Oxy/Methane torch in a class geared toward the beginner to intermediate bench jeweler.
 This is the brochure that was sent out to independent jewelers across America, inviting them to come and learn all about jewelry making and repair.
I am still teaching the art of jewelry making as the videos here show! The students just happen to be very close to me.
